History of Dyme

Dyme is a Dutch based company, founded in 2018 by Joran Iedema, David Knap, David Schogt and Wouter Florijn. Before Dyme, they worked together on Cycleswap, the ‘Airbnb for bicycles’. This bike sharing platform was founded in 2014 and sold to an American competitor in 2016.

 

Wouter originally came up with the idea for Dyme. As he was (with quite some reluctance) organising his personal finances, he ran into some issues. First, it simply took a lot of time and required tedious manual input. Second, he found a gym membership he completely forgot about and did not use anymore, costing about €350,- a year. And third, canceling most of these subscriptions proved very difficult.

 

When Dyme was an idea still, there were speculations about a European law that would break banks’ monopolies on user data. What came to be known as ‘PSD2’ further boosted the actualisation of Dyme. In October 2019 Dyme became the first Dutch B2C company to receive a PSD2 license, enabling data import from all EU bank accounts.
